When should I use Bluetooth Devices?

Bluetooth devices come in all shapes and sizes, from simple speakers to fully-sized keyboards and remote screens that can work on almost any mobile device or tablet. However, not everybody actually makes use of them, and a lot of people end up completely ignoring Bluetooth features for one reason or another. Bluetooth might be useful in one situation but redundant in another, and it’s a good idea to work out which situations can actually benefit from that kind of wireless connection.

Speakers

Speakers are one of the most common ways to use a Bluetooth receiver in the modern world, and for a good reason. They’re a wireless, Wi-Fi-free way of broadcasting music from a mobile device without having to rely on a single built-in speaker, and they can sometimes even work alongside smart televisions or laptop computers to give you better audio quality on something you’re watching. The majority of built-in speakers in devices will struggle to reach a decent audio quality, but even a simple cheap Bluetooth speaker can be enough to fix that problem.

Headphones

Bluetooth headphones are just as common (if not more common) than speakers, and it’s easy to see why. Not having to deal with a cable makes the act of listening to music, podcasts, phone calls or other types of audio much easier in any situation, especially if you’re on the move. They’re often used by runners or frequent exercisers due to the very convenient nature of having a cable-free set of headphones or earbuds, but they can also be useful for people who are just sitting around, doing other jobs around the house, or even playing games on a computer or laptop.

Microphones

Bluetooth microphones aren’t as common as speakers or headphones, but they’re still incredibly useful for specific situations. The lack of a full cable means that they can be used from a fair distance away and connected to devices elsewhere in the room, which is great for people who need to host speaking events or want to record audio from a comfortable position. Not only that, but they’re often used to take phone calls without having to use a speaker mode, avoiding the usual problem of background noise being much more obvious to the person on the other end.

Keyboards

Transitioning from typing on a keyboard to typing on a phone screen can be extremely hard for some people, especially if they don’t normally use their phone often. A Bluetooth keyboard can solve this issue quite easily, offering an optional keyboard that you can pair to any mobile device and start using like any regular keyboard. Not only does it make typing long pieces of text much faster, but it can stand in as an alternative to a full laptop if you don’t have the budget for one yet.

Watches

Bluetooth watches are also fairly common but can come with a range of different purposes and features. For example, one might use Bluetooth to track your steps and pulse to send to your phone’s exercise apps, while others can use it to set up calls or control other Bluetooth appliances in the area. With the right watch, you might even be able to control your phone without having to take it out of your pocket.

Locks

Bluetooth locks are a fairly modern idea, but it’s something that’s catching on in specific places. A lock that can be opened and closed with your phone not only removes the need for a key but ensures that nobody can simply steal it and get into your home – they need your phone password, too. Many of them also operate through Wi-Fi, and some can even be automatically configured to unlock if you swipe your phone near the lock when Bluetooth is enabled.

Security Systems

Some people go the extra mile and set up entire Bluetooth security systems, such as cameras or alarms that can be triggered by their phones. This isn’t necessary for everybody’s life, but there’s something comforting about being able to set off an alarm and record footage with a few taps and swipes of your phone, especially if you’re trying to stay hidden or get woken up at night by the sound of a burglar. It might be overkill, but it’s the last thing most thieves will expect.
