3 Things To Consider Before Buying A Refurbished Device

If you’re in the market for a new cell phone, there are quite a few options available to you. While you can always go for a brand new phone, if you’ve got a bit of a tight budget, you may find yourself considering a trade-in for a refurbished phone instead. And with the quality of phones that have been coming out in the last few years, getting one that’s been used for a year or so may not be a bad idea. But before you make this decision, there are a few things you should think about.

So to help you in knowing what to be on the lookout for, here are three things to consider before buying a refurbished device.

Understand How “Refurbished” Is Being Defined

Not all refurbishments are going to be done in the same way or mean the same thing. While you might think the refurbished phone you’re getting is going to be as if it’s brand spanking new, you might be surprised at the state of the phone you wind up getting. So before you spend your hard-earned money on something, make sure you know how the seller is defining “refurbished”.

Ideally, you should try to buy a refurbished phone from the manufacturer or other certified seller. When you go this route, you can have a lot more confidence that the refurbishment was done correctly and that they used certified parts for any replacements that needed to be done.

Try To See The Device In-Person

While there are many things that you can be comfortable buying online without actually seeing it in person, your new device shouldn’t really be one of these things. Especially if you’re buying the device from someone that you don’t know or don’t have a rapport with, it’s wise not to necessarily take them at their word until you’ve seen the device with your own eyes.

By seeing the device before you agree to buy it, you’ll be able to see what the actual condition of the device is. And while you won’t be able to actually use it unless or until you purchase it, you can hold the device and make sure that everything looks up to par beforehand.

The Warranty And Return Policy

One thing that can be encouraging when buying a refurbished device is if you’re offered a reasonable warranty or return policy after your purchase of the device.

When it comes to the return policy, you should try to get at least a month to see how the phone works and if there’s anything majorly wrong with it. And before you buy, ask the seller if the warranty is still in place for the device and how much time is left on that warranty, which could affect your decision to risk buying it or not.

If you’ve been considering buying a refurbished device instead of a brand new one, use the tips mentioned above to help ensure you get a quality product.
